The City of Poughkeepsie Police Memorial was erected on September 28, 2001 by the 2001 PBA Executive Board, President Paul Hansut, Vice President Richard Wilson, Treasurer Thomas Pape and Secretary Karl “Skip” Mannain in cooperation with the City under the direction of Mayor Collette Lafuente .  Members of several local police agencies and several local fire departments were on hand for the dedication.  Congresswoman Sue Kelly also attended the ceremony.  Several police agencies sent color guards and the State Police provided a fly over.  Members of the WestchesterCounty Emerald Society Pipes and Drums were also on hand for the ceremony. 

                                 

                                                                                                                                    

                                                                                                   

 Officer Otto Albertson

Officer Raymond Cleveland

End of Watch: Thursday, September 25, 1969

     

Cleveland suffered a fatal heart attack while escorting a woman to jail from a local tavern. The woman was able to slip out of her handcuffs and kicked Officer Cleveland. He collapsed while trying to subdue the woman.

Officer Cleveland had served with the agency for 27 years.
